We call it « Childhood »; it’s one period but a lot of memories. Most of us consider it as the most beautiful period in one’s life. Unfortunately, it’s not the same case for all people, we all were children and we know very well that there are some primordial rights from what every child must benefit.

The situation is complex when we talk about that, about the non-respect of children rights, but we can’t deny that everything changes and by sensitizing people about the situation we can reach great results.

Why sensitizing?

Sexual abuse, violence, children work, children marriage… here is some forms of non-respect or of Human unconsciousness, we know there existence, we know that it’s unfair but we don’t act to solve these situations.

When we pass next to a roundabout (traffic circle) and we perceive a child selling handkerchieves, flowers … while our children and other children are at school, what do we do? Well, the most humble reaction we can do is to buy what he sells! Honestly, it’s that a good solution to help him?

When our car broke down, we took it to a mechanic and found a filthy little child who works hard for a little money, what do we do? Well, the most humble reaction we can do is to give him some more money! Honestly, we can change his situation by this act? The same case for those who work with carpenters, hairdressers, bakers… and also for those girls who work as maids.

When we talk about a little girl forced to be married at her young age, what do we do? Actually, we can’t do anything except saying that it’s unfair, it’s horrible… and we keep showing our emotions that never came to make us react. It’s almost the same case when we talk about an abused child except that we add few words to our emotions and we say: this criminal must pay for what he did. How can he pay, if we keep talking and never acting?

There are many situations and I don’t need to remind you that we have to do the first step and change the worst. We try to justify these issues by another one which is poverty but in reality: our actual reactions are not a good cure and we have to admit it.

I think it’s clear why we have to sensitize about the Children’s situation in Morocco! Some people can believe that raising awareness do not influence the practices because we already see what we tell them, I think they are simply wrong! When we see these issues we can’t really do great things to solve them, but when someone try to make us aware about the danger of what we see, we become optimists and we realize that except us there are people that care, and they are much daring than us because they ACT.

How to sensitize and what to do?

Certainly, there are many NGOs that try to take care of children, to defend their rights and to improve their situation. But, as long as we find a lot of delinquents in the street, a lot of children that have neither family nor shelter, a lot of young children that work and a lot of children that undergo the Human dirt and are abused, we can notice that these associations need a real help.

If some of us can, joining these NGOs is one of the best reactions. If not, then help in sensitizing.

In my point of view, the project of “raising the awareness of people about children’s situation in Morocco” should follow this succession:

-Collect Statistics:

The first step is to collect a real statistics about children’s situation in Morocco.

-List the NGOs:

Look for the associations that act for children’s care and collaborate with them.

-Identify the issues:

Cut each problem independently of other social issue

-Identify where there is a massive abuse:

There is some areas where the non-respect of children rights is flagrant, we must identify this places and try to find the link between this and the cultural background of these areas.

-Find solutions for each case:

After doing a detailed study, we will try to look for effective solutions according to each problem.

-Expose the children rights:

After finding solutions, we must take action. To do this, we will make programs for awareness campaigns about children rights and why not “the right of the day” program.

-Create an organization:

By creating an organization, every abuse can be declared and the members must intervene to solve the problem by sensitizing parents, helping when it comes to a legal process, hosting children, taking care of them…
